Display ads and reader experience

thesopranos.com may show third-party display advertising, currently through Google AdSense, on pages that meet our content quality bar. Advertising keeps hosting paid while guides stay free. This page describes where ads appear, where they do not, and how we handle ad-related privacy.

When ads show

Ad tags run only on pages with enough original text in the main content area (currently 400 or more words) and that are meant for public search indexing. Short stubs, legacy forum archives, and work-in-progress drafts do not carry ad code. An automated readiness pass strips tags from thin pages before deploy.

Ad format and placement

We prefer responsive display units that do not cover navigation or main text. We do not use pop-ups, auto-play video with sound, or download prompts. If a network-served ad looks misleading or off-brand, report the URL and we will block the category where AdSense allows.

Editorial separation

Advertisers do not choose which locations or episodes we cover. Sponsored posts, if ever used, would be labeled clearly at the top of the article. Today the site is editorial-only plus programmatic display.

Children and sensitive topics

The subject matter is an adult TV drama. We configure ad settings to limit categories that clash with that context where the ad platform provides controls. Parents should use streaming parental controls on HBO or other services, not this fan site, to restrict viewing.

Privacy

Ad networks may use cookies or similar tools to serve and measure ads. Details are in the Privacy policy. You can adjust personalization through Google Ad Settings and your browser controls.
