Plot
Junior Soprano is under house arrest following his RICO indictment. He remains officially the acting boss but his movements are monitored and his calls recorded. Tony visits him regularly, navigating the awkward reality of their relationship after last season's assassination attempt. They speak carefully, circling the unspoken.
Richie Aprile is released from prison after a decade away. He is Janice's ex-boyfriend and a significant figure in New Jersey mob history, known for being brutal and unpredictable. His return immediately disrupts the established order. Tony has been running the Aprile crew during Richie's absence, and Richie expects everything returned to him on his schedule. Tony is not prepared to comply. The tension between them is immediate.
Janice is already working to reconnect with Richie, seeing in him both a romantic prospect and leverage against Tony. Hesh warns Tony that Richie is dangerous and motivated. A subplot involves construction site workers striking, with African American protesters demanding union inclusion. Tony must balance his own prejudices against the practical reality that the labor dispute is affecting his income.
