Plot
Matthew Bevilaqua and Sean Gismonte have settled on a plan to advance their careers: kill Christopher Moltisanti. They believe that by removing Tony's nephew and favorite, they will earn enough favor with Richie Aprile to get made. It is a catastrophically bad plan, and the episode shows both the logic they apply to it and the many points where they could have stopped.
Bevilaqua and Sean ambush Christopher outside his apartment and shoot him multiple times at close range. Christopher is badly wounded but survives, saved partly by luck and partly by the fact that the two shooters have never done anything like this before. Their execution is poor. Christopher makes it to a hospital. Tony is called and is beside himself.
Tony begins piecing together who authorized the hit. Big Pussy, who is now cooperating covertly with the FBI, helps Tony work through what happened. The emerging picture is that the two young men largely acted on their own initiative to impress Richie. Tony visits Christopher in the hospital. Christopher is intubated but conscious. Tony tells him he is going to be fine. Bevilaqua and Gismonte wait across town, not yet knowing how the plan played out.
