Calling All Cars

Episode guide - plot, credits, music, and analysis.

Plot

Tony's dreams have taken on new intensity -- his parents and figures from his past appearing in ways that bleed into his waking mood. He discusses these dreams with Melfi, who is trying to help him locate the source of his current anxiety without pushing him toward insights he is not ready to accept. Tony is resistant to dream analysis in the same way he resists any form of self-examination that might implicate the choices he has made.

Bobby Baccalieri is still deep in grief over Karen. He is barely functional, still wearing his wedding ring, still talking about Karen as if she might come home. Janice is spending significant time at Bobby's house, ostensibly to help with the children, actually to position herself as a replacement. Tony watches this with distaste but does not intervene. Bobby is vulnerable and Janice has always been an opportunist.

Furio Giunta finally acts on his feelings for Carmela in a way that nearly ends everything. During a moment alone together, Furio comes close to kissing her. Instead he returns to Italy without telling Tony he is leaving. He simply disappears from New Jersey and does not come back. Tony is confused and then suspicious. Carmela is devastated in ways she cannot explain to anyone.
