Plot

Tony tells Christopher the story of how his father Dickie Moltisanti actually died. The version Christopher has always believed -- that Dickie was killed by a rival from New York -- is the official account. Tony now tells him the real killer was a corrupt cop named Barry Haydu, who is still alive and working as a civilian. Tony gives Christopher a gun and a specific target for his grief and rage.

Christopher tracks down Haydu at his home and kills him. What Tony has not told Christopher is that this account is itself a manipulation: the real circumstances of Dickie's death are more complicated and more implicating of Tony's own family. Tony has handed Christopher a murder to commit and a false narrative to carry through the rest of his life. It cements Christopher's loyalty while giving Tony permanent control over what Christopher believes about his father.

Tony and Carmela are in a better financial position but their marriage is still a managed arrangement. Bobby Baccalieri has emerged as a more significant figure in the crew since his father's death. The season's ongoing tension with the Lupertazzi family in New York begins to take shape. Tony's position feels stable, but the cracks are already visible from the right angles.
