Tony and Phil begin an explosive conflict that puts Phil in the hospital, while Chris and Anthony both embark on new romances.
Plot
Bobby Baccalieri and Janice get married in a ceremony that Tony and Carmela attend. The wedding is warm and specific to who Bobby and Janice are -- not a grand mob spectacle but something more modest and genuine. Tony and Carmela are the happiest they have appeared in some time. Bobby is clearly devoted to Janice, and Janice, at the wedding, seems like the best version of herself.
Tony is managing the New York relationship carefully. Phil Leotardo is operating with more aggression and less of Johnny Sack's willingness to negotiate. Christopher has married Kelli Lombardo, his girlfriend since Adriana's disappearance. Christopher's marriage is presented quickly and without sentiment -- a factual development rather than an emotional one. Adriana's ghost is present in every scene involving Christopher's domestic life without ever being stated.
The season has been building toward an escalation with New York that has not yet fully arrived. Phil Leotardo is an enemy rather than a rival, Tony's crew has been weakened by various events across the season, and the holiday period is beginning. Tony sits with his family in a way that echoes the season-ending meals from earlier in the series, but the frame has shifted. There is less warmth and more vigilance in the way he occupies the center of his world.
